SIO opposes Mandatory Vande Matram in Pune Muncipal schools

By Staff Reporter
Students wing of Jamate Islami Hind SIO (Students Islamic Organisation) has opposed the decision of making Vande Mataram  Pune Municipal Corporation schools .
Press posted to media person said that it is a divisive, distracting move; PMC should focus on basic facilities, education quality in civic schools.
Following the foot steps of BMC(Brahan Mumbai Municipal Corporation ) A proposal by Shiv Sena corporators to make Vande Mataram mandatory in all civic schools in Pune was passed at the all-party meeting on Wednesday.
Iy further says, This is a deliberate attempt by the saffron-dominated municipal corporation to fan the flames of divisiveness in a city known for its harmony and tolerance.
Why PMC is keen on implementation of irrelevant activities while ignoring other priorities of quality teaching and infrastructure in schools, is a big question.
PMC schools are frequently in news for all the wrong reasons like corruption, lack of basic facilities and unavailablity of trained teachers.
SIO complained  that Students in several Pune Municipal Corporation-run schools have been attending classes in civil clothes as they never got their uniforms, even as the first semester is all but over.
The civic body very well knows that reciting Vande Matram, which alludes to worshipping the mother nation, is antithetical to Islamic faith, which believes in onness of God. PMC doesn’t have the right to impose the song on all the students.
Shaikh Nadeem (Secretary, Dept of Education, SIO South Maharashtra)
told Millattimes.com that SIO beleives that, bearing in mind the socio-cultural diversity of India, one cannot force students to recite a particular song, especially the one which is rooted in a particular ideology or culture. It takes away the democratic right of citizens which needs to be upheld at all costs”, added Nadeem.
