Tried establishing contact with the LG of J&K but received no response.
A Youth from a hamlet in Pulwama holds an offer of admission to the MPhil programme in English (Modern and Contemporary Literature) from the world’s top third institution – the University of Cambridge, UK. Interestingly, he is the first Kashmiri student to be offered this programme at Cambridge. Unfortunately, he could not secure a scholarship for this programme at Cambridge. Usually, Cambridge Trust provides financial support to the students who get selected for different courses. But this year COVID19 pandemic has harmed economies worldwide which led to the choking of the funds provided for scholarship purposes and built an incredibly fierce competition. As a result, many international students who got admission to Oxbridge have been left to themselves. It is our moral obligation to support him financially and make sure he goes to Cambridge! He had earlier tried to seek government help for sponsoring his education but received no response from Raj Bhawan. This fundraising campaign is his last hope.
Junaid Shabir completed his Masters in English with Distinction from the University of Kashmir and wants to pursue his further education at Cambridge. He has maintained an excellent academic record hitherto and has worked very hard to get admission to this prestigious university. The prevailing unrest in the valley and the challenges that the circumstances threw upon him could not hamper his path to success or stop him from achieving this goal.
At Cambridge, his research would centre on the poetry from Kashmir, Palestine and Tibet to explore the social and political dimensions of such works of literature. He would have a comparative approach to “. . . investigate the records of trauma and brutalities in verse, show how this poetry is a transparent chronicle of the lived realities of these territories . . .”
After completing this graduate programme at Cambridge, Junaid would pursue his doctoral research ahead. In the coming years, he sees himself teaching English and Comparative literature to graduate and undergraduate students.
