Delegation of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and other Muslim organizations meets with Home Minister Amit Shah

MT NEWS NETWORK,New Delhi,September 21, 2019: A delegation comprising of the leaders of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and other Muslim organizations called on Shri Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India at his Krishna Menon Marg residence and discussed various important issues concerning the country and community. The delegation was led by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind National president Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuir accompanied by Maulana Mahmood Madani JUH General Secretary, Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi, Ameer Jamiat Ahle Hadith Hind and several other leaders.

Maulana Mahmood Madani, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind during meeting handed over to the Home Minister the Hindi version of resolutions that were adopted in the recently concluded General Council Meeting of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH). Maulana Madani also apprised him that General Council of JUH comprises of representatives from all across the country. Maulana Madani also asserted that there might be differences of opinion over some issues with the government, but if the matter belongs to the national interest, JUH would stand side by side with it. That is why the JUH General Council has adopted a resolution reiterating its stand that Kashmir and people of Kashmir both belong to us equally and they can not be separated from us and that JUH deplores every separatist movement and it always stands up for the cause of united India.

Maulana further noted that the Home Ministry’s initiative about Pan India NRC is presented as a threat and harassment to the Muslims. Therefore, it would be proper if the Home Minister clarifies his stand over the issue. Likewise, there are grave concerns over certain amendments in the provision of UAPA. These amendments may be necessary for checking the menace of terrorism but the police and law enforcing agencies must be held responsible for misuse of laws.

Shri Amit Shah while listening to the concern expressed by the members of the delegation clarified that scrapping article 370 is in the interest of people of Kashmir. This Article was instead harmful to the concerned people. He invoked many examples for proving his stand. But he also assured that the culture and tradition of Kashmiri shall not be affected. Maulana Mohammad Salman Mansurpoori raised the issue of banning media and other means of communications creating lots of difficulties to the Kashmiris. On this, the Home Minister replied to him that there are 196 police stations in Kashmir but the provision of 144 has been imposed in areas of only seven police stations. As for the curfew, night curfew has been imposed only in 14 police stations. About banning mobile phone, the miscreants from Pakistan are bent upon spreading rumour and disturbing peace in the valley, therefore it was necessary to impose a ban on it. However, we have arranged landlines phones and anyone can avail this facility within six hours. Besides that, we have also installed one thousand PCOs in public locations. But there are some connectivity problems in remote areas. Schools have been opened but we have not been suppressing anyone. We are trying hard to restore normalcy over there.

While explaining about NRC to the Jamiat President Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansurpoori, the home Minster said that there was no need to get scared over NRC. In Assam, we have issued a circular that those who have been left out in NRC will be provided free legal aid by the government or will bear legal expense if someone avails legal service on his own. About conducting NRC exercise in the whole country, he said that in every country of the world this exercise has been conducted. Our intention has never been to harass members of the minority community. We will ensure that there is no discrimination based on religion. The government will continue to act against intruders as it is related to the security of the country. Regarding the UAPA Act, he said that enough provision has been incorporated while enacting this law that it should never be misused. He also lauded Jamiat’s initiative for constituting Jamiat Sadbhavna Manch across the country. There is a need for dialogue among members of different communities in India.

Maulana Asghar Imam Salafi Mehdi said to the Home Minister that we believe in dialogue and discussion. Various issues being faced by the minority communities shall be resolved through discussions. The Home Minister assured him that he is willing to engage every Muslim organization with dialogue and discussion with an open heart.
