8 SIMI activists escape from Bhopal jail, one guard killed: Cops

Eight activists of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) escaped from the Bhopal Central Jail on Monday morning, killing a security guard, a senior police officer said.

The activists had reportedly used bedsheets to scale the prison wall and escape.

“Eight SIMI activists escaped around 2-3 am by killing a jail security guard,” Bhopal DIG Raman Singh told PTI.

The activists of the banned Islamist organisation had slit the guard’s throat, killing him, the DIG said.

Further details are awaited and a hunt has been launched to nab them, he added.
