From now on the prepaid mobile connections has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir, while 2G services has been also resumed in two districts of the valley after being the network disconnected from August last year, official has said. Facilities of voice and SMS has been also restored for all local prepaid mobiles across the Union territory.
The decision of restoring the connectivity has came after when the Supreme Court of India has said, while hearing a petition last week, Supreme court has ordered a review of all the restrictive orders that are still in place and in result the whole communication are stopped.
The court has said the process should be done under a week. “Suspension of free movement, Internet and basic freedoms cannot be an arbitrary exercise of power,” the court said.
The principal secretary Rohit Kansal who is the administration of Jammu and Kashmir, has said that the order will come into effect from today. The telecom service providers will have to verify the credentials of the subscribers In order to giving mobile Internet connectivity on such SIM cards, , he stated.
While Internet service providers asked to provide fixed line Internet connectivity in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The center Govt. had enforced a strict communications blackout and Internet shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir from August 5 last year, when it scrapped the Section 370 of the Constitution . The extended Internet blackout was criticized by many in India and abroad, including the United Nations and the US government.
