‘Victims of the State?’ premieres today: A hard-hitting documentary on the human cost of the 2006 Mumbai train bombings

Victims of the State? is a compelling new documentary by Millat Times, directed by award-winning multimedia journalist Meer Faisal, that delves into the long and painful aftermath of the 2006 Mumbai train bombings. The film releases today, January 14, at 8:00 PM.

The documentary traces the lives of 13 men who were arrested in connection with the blasts that claimed over 180 lives and were publicly branded as terrorists. Through deeply personal accounts, the film uncovers allegations of custodial torture, forced confessions, and the years they spent behind bars before ultimately being acquitted.

By juxtaposing the chaos of the attacks with the silent, enduring suffering of the falsely accused, the film lays bare the human cost of fear, prejudice, and stringent anti-terror laws. It raises a haunting question: what does freedom mean when the justice system fails those it is meant to protect?

Nearly two decades after the tragedy, Victims of the State? aims to ignite critical discussions around accountability, civil liberties, and the devastating impact of wrongful convictions in India.

The documentary premieres today, January 14, at 8:00 PM on the official Millat Times YouTube channel.
