This time not as easy as ever was to win RS polls for senior leader Among total 11 Rajya Sabha members from Gujarat, the tenure of three of them —(Smriti Irani and Dilipbhai Pandya (both from the BJP) and Ahmed Patel ( from the Congress)— is just around the corner. Circumstances are getting worse and worse for the Congress, as its several lawmakers from the state are quitting the party. Just ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls which is going to be held on August 8, half a dozen Congress MLAs have stepped down. According to sources, senior leader Ahmed Patel, who is about to complete his forth term in Upper House, would face difficulty to win elections as more opposition legislators are likely to take exit from the party in the upcoming days. The Congress lawmaker Raghawjee Patel, considered close to former party strongman Shankersinh Vaghela, pointed out he also would exit and enter into the BJP. “The state party leadership along with Congress high command, is responsible for whatever is happening right now. In days to come, 20 Congress MLAs would severe ties with the party. Thus, it will be impossible for Ahmed Patel to win RS polls,” Mr Patel said. “A large number of Congress workers are unhappy with the way the party is functioning,” said the legislator from Jamna Nagar (North) seat.
