The body of Aijaz Ahmad Dar, a 28–29-year-old labourer from Darpora, Hallpora, Gadool in Kokernag, was recovered in Punjab and brought to his native village on Monday, officials said.

His family has alleged murder and demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to media reports, a missing person report was lodged on September 26 after Dar, son of Abdul Majeed Dar, went missing while searching for work. His family said he had travelled to Srinagar around 20 days earlier, where he stayed for approximately 10 days before leaving for Ludhiana in Punjab for labour work.

The family said they remained in regular telephone contact with Dar for about a week, but communication stopped after his phone was switched off.

On October 17, residents of Hallpora and Dar’s family staged a protest over his disappearance, expressing concern for his safety and demanding immediate efforts to trace him. The protest ended peacefully following intervention and assurances from SDPO Kokernag and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kokernag police station.

After Dar’s body was brought to his native village on Monday, family members and local residents staged another protest outside Police Station Kokernag, alleging that he had been murdered and calling for a comprehensive investigation.

Police assured the protesters that the case would be taken to its logical conclusion. The protestors dispersed peacefully following the assurance.
