A Muslim scrap dealer in Faridabad, Haryana, returned nearly 100 grams of gold jewellery worth around Rs 15 lakh to a family six months after they accidentally sold it as scrap, drawing attention as an example of honesty.

Ashok Sharma and his family had stored their gold in a container inside a bag while away at the Kumbh Mela in January last year. During Diwali cleaning, they mistakenly sold the bag, believing it contained scrap, to Haji Akhtar Khan, a local Muslim scrap dealer.

Neither Khan nor the family were aware that the bag contained jewellery worth about Rs 15 lakh. After realizing the mistake during Diwali, the Sharmas began searching for the bag. Around four months later, Khan located the container in his warehouse.

In the presence of ACP Jitesh Malhotra, Khan returned the jewellery to the Sharma family. The incident has been widely noted locally as a display of integrity.
