New Delhi: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) President, former Member of Parliament, and President of Jamiat Ulama Assam, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, expressed his strong reaction to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech delivered from the Red Fort on August 15, 2025.
Maulana Ajmal said: “It is with deep regret and concern that we note Prime Minister Narendra Modi, once again, presented a selective version of history in his Independence Day address, ignoring several important truths. In the struggle for India’s freedom, millions sacrificed their lives, and Muslims played a prominent and unforgettable role. Yet, the Prime Minister did not mention a single Muslim freedom fighter, which is both unfortunate and an injustice to history.”
He further pointed out that, instead of acknowledging the sacrifices of Muslim organisations such as Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind and the Khilafat Committee, the Prime Minister chose to praise the RSS — an organisation that had no significant role in the freedom struggle. According to him, such one-sided narratives not only distort history but also damage the spirit of national unity and harmony.
Commenting on the Prime Minister’s choice of words like “infiltrators” and “demographic change,” Maulana Ajmal said that such expressions were “irresponsible, communal, and dangerous, echoing the rhetoric of extremist elements and lower-level BJP leaders. Now, hearing such language from the country’s highest office is extremely alarming.” He warned that such remarks risk creating an atmosphere of hatred and widening divides among communities.
Maulana Ajmal also criticized the Prime Minister for continuing to focus on blaming past governments instead of addressing the country’s pressing issues. “Even after securing a third term, the Prime Minister is still spending his time targeting previous governments rather than presenting concrete solutions. His speech offered no serious plan to tackle inflation, unemployment, education, healthcare, or the overall development of the nation. It was filled with promises, claims, and accusations, but lacked substance,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Maulana Ajmal urged the Prime Minister to focus on national unity, harmony, and development, and to avoid statements that weaken social cohesion. He stressed that presenting history truthfully and recognizing the sacrifices of all communities is a national duty — especially on an occasion as significant as Independence Day.
