Three suspected militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the Indian Army said.

The Army’s White Knight Corps said in a post on social media platform X that it had launched a joint operation, codenamed TRASHI-I, with the Jammu and Kashmir Police following intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected militants in the area.

The exchange of fire began at around 11 a.m., the Army said.

In an update at 2:45 p.m., the White Knight Corps said two suspected militants had been killed and “war-like stores”, including two AK-47 rifles, had been recovered.

By 6:14 p.m., it said the operation was continuing and that a third suspected militant had been killed.

The identities of those killed were yet to be ascertained, the Indian Express reported.

In January, an Indian Army havildar was killed after being injured in a gunfight with suspected militants in Kishtwar.

The White Knight Corps said Havildar Gajendra Singh “made the supreme sacrifice while gallantly executing a counter-terrorism operation in the Singpura area during the ongoing Operation TRASHI-I on the intervening night of Jan. 18-19, 2026.”

Singh was among eight soldiers injured in a gunbattle that broke out between security forces and suspected militants during an operation in the Chhatru area, the Army said at the time.
