Uttar Pradesh: Woman, 66, booked for providing false details about sons in voter roll survey

Rampur DM says a BLO found the woman hid her sons’ overseas addresses and allegedly forged their signatures; a case has been filed against her and her sons.

A 66-year-old Muslim woman in Rampur has been booked for allegedly providing false information about her two sons during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, authorities said.

The woman, identified as Noorjahan, reportedly claimed that her sons, Aamir Khan and Danish Khan, were living in India, although one resides in Dubai and the other in Kuwait. Officials allege she also forged their signatures on the survey form.

Rampur District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi said the discrepancy was discovered after a Block Level Officer digitised the submitted information. “Upon verification, it was found that the international addresses of her sons were hidden, and signatures were allegedly forged. A case has been registered against Noorjahan and her sons,” he said.

The FIR was lodged at Civil Lines Police Station following a complaint from the survey supervisor. It cites Sections 237 and 318(2) of the Indian Penal Code, relating to false declarations and cheating, and Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act 1950, which addresses submission of false statements for electoral rolls.

Under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision schedule, Block Level Officers have until December 11 to share lists of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters with booth-level agents of political parties.

The draft electoral roll will be published on December 16, with the final roll scheduled for release on February 14.
