A 35-year-old woman in Bihar’s Supaul district died on Wednesday after completing a nine-day Navratri ritual in which she kept a ceremonial pot on her chest, NDTV reported.
Sachita Devi, wife of Virendra Yadav and a resident of Ward 4 in Triveniganj town, fell ill after returning home from a Durga temple on Tuesday, when the ritual concluded.
Her condition reportedly deteriorated during the night. She complained of chest pain on Wednesday morning and was taken to Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
According to her family, Devi had been performing the ritual at the Durga temple complex in Triveniganj market since the first day of Navratri, keeping the kalash on her chest throughout the nine-day observance.
Dr Umesh Kumar Mandal, who was on duty at the hospital, said the woman was brought in with complaints of chest pain.
He said dehydration or an underlying heart condition could have contributed to her death. However, the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed.
