PRESS RELEASE/Millat Times

CPI congratulates the Association for Democratic Reforms for releasing a report on the fund collection by political parties which exposed the corporate link with the ruling parties. Rs. 1,070.68 crore fund was received by five national parties via voluntary contributions above Rs. 20,000/- for four years. 89% of it, i.e. 956.77 crores was from corporate and business houses and BJP received the highest amount of Rs. 705.81 crores out of it from 2,987 big donors. Congress has got 198.16 crores from 167 donors. 99% of unknown donations belongs to BJP.

However, there is a wrong news that CPI has got Rs. 18 lakhs from corporate houses, though it is said it is the least amount. CPI wants to clarify that our party did not receive funds from any corporate houses those year. There is an amount of Rs. 20,000/- and above whose names we furnished. They are from our M.P.s, ExM.P., who pay levy. 50% of the salary of M.P. and 15% of the pension of Ex-M.P.s is paid to the party. This list is mistakenly printed as corporate donations, and some papers have written as unions and associations.

CPI also collects donations from friends, well-wishers and people but we are accountable by declaring the names.

The exposure of fund by the ADR (Association of Democratic Rights) shows, why CPI and Left is against the corporate funding of political parties. The “Quid Pro Quo” can be witnessed in massive concessions to corporate, business houses and a wavering of so called bad loans of 81,000 crore of business houses by public sector banks, recently.

Moreover the BJP government has brought a new amendment to keep the company donations, in confidence from this year and any amount can be donated to political parties. This exposes who is on which side, of corporates and people. CPI demands the donors names should be transparent to people and ban corporate donations to political parties.
