Gaza is Starving, the World Cannot Remain a Silent Spectator: Muslim Leaders Urge Indian Government to Act

New Delhi, July 28 – In a powerful show of solidarity with the people of Gaza, leading Muslim organizations and prominent religious leaders from across India held a joint press conference today at the Press Club of India, urging the Government of India to take immediate and concrete action against the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Addressing the media, the speakers described the situation in Gaza as one of the darkest humanitarian crises in modern history. They expressed deep concern over the escalating famine, the complete collapse of infrastructure, and the relentless bombardment by Israeli forces. “People are dying of hunger. If we remain silent at this critical juncture, it will be a grave and unforgivable crime in the eyes of history,” they stated in a joint declaration.

Unfolding Catastrophe in Gaza

According to the statement released to the press, more than two million civilians in Gaza are currently facing extreme shortages of food, clean water, medical aid, and fuel. Over 90% of hospitals are either completely destroyed or non-functional, and doctors are reportedly performing surgeries without anesthesia. The leaders emphasized that the situation is not the result of a defensive war but a deliberate and systematic attempt to eliminate Gaza’s population.

“Entire neighborhoods have been wiped off the map. Babies are dying in incubators due to power cuts. This is not a war — this is genocide,” the statement read.

Urging the Indian Government to Lead

The leaders welcomed India’s recent statement at the United Nations General Assembly, which called for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state. However, they stressed that verbal support is not enough in the face of mass atrocities.

“India has a proud history of standing against injustice. Now is the time for our nation to show leadership on the global stage by playing an active role in stopping the genocide in Gaza,” said the speakers.

They also put forward a list of concrete demands to the Indian government:

  • Establishment of humanitarian aid corridors into Gaza

  • Immediate supply of food, medical aid, water, and fuel

  • Suspension of all military and strategic relations with Israel until the aggression ends

“When we are witnessing genocide with our own eyes, silence is complicity,” the statement declared.

Call to Indian Citizens and Civil Society

The press conference also included a passionate appeal to the Indian public, urging citizens across faiths to raise awareness and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“This is not just a Muslim issue; it is a matter of basic human dignity. Students, civil society groups, religious leaders, scholars, and common citizens must come forward — through protest rallies, educational forums, interfaith gatherings, and social media campaigns — to make their voices heard,” the leaders urged.

They also expressed concern over the growing criminalization of pro-Palestine voices in India. “Supporting the rights of Palestinians is not extremism. It is a moral, legal, and constitutional stand aligned with India’s democratic values,” they emphasized.

Call to the Muslim World

In a strong message to the global Muslim community, the speakers urged Muslim-majority nations to take firm diplomatic action against Israel. “It is time for Islamic countries to break their silence, sever ties, and form a united front to pressure Israel into ending its inhumane siege,” they said.

Key Demands Highlighted

The press conference concluded with a reiteration of urgent demands:

  • Immediate and unconditional ceasefire

  • Complete lifting of the blockade on Gaza

  • Guaranteed delivery of essential supplies

  • Creation of international humanitarian corridors

A joint declaration outlining these demands was circulated among attendees and the media.
