A court in Muzaffarnagar has acquitted two men in connected cases involving alleged cow slaughter and an attack on police, citing serious doubts in the prosecution’s account, The Times of India reported.

According to the TOI report, the prosecution alleged that Israr and Kamil attacked three policemen with knives when officers tried to arrest them. However, the court noted that none of the policemen sustained even a minor injury.

The incident took place on November 22, 2014, when sub-inspector Babu Lal and two other policemen were on patrol. An informer allegedly tipped them off that the two men were slaughtering a cow outside Israr’s house.

Police claimed they found a slaughtered cow, with its skin removed, along with its horns and hooves.

The court also questioned how the accused could have continued slaughtering a cow for nearly two hours in the presence of a large crowd without anyone objecting. It observed that the allegations could have been fabricated.
