Journalist Mohammad Naseem Ahmad, associated with Hindi newspaper Dainik Janvani, died during treatment after allegedly being assaulted by a group of people in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district on Sunday.

The incident reportedly followed a dispute over a Diwali advertisement that he had approached a local businessman to publish in the newspaper.

The alleged assault took place on Jarothi Road, where Naseem had reportedly visited a businessman associated with a flour mill to seek an advertisement.

According to eyewitness Salauddin, the businessman declined the request. As Naseem and Salauddin were leaving, a group of around seven to eight people allegedly stopped them, called them “fake journalists” and attacked them.

Both men reportedly sustained serious injuries in the assault. Naseem’s condition was critical, and he later died during treatment, according to reports. Salauddin was also reportedly seriously injured.

Salauddin, who was reportedly present during the incident, alleged that the confrontation escalated after the disagreement over the advertisement. He claimed that the two men were accused of being fake journalists before the group allegedly began assaulting them.

The precise sequence of events leading to the attack, along with the identities and individual roles of all those allegedly involved, remains unclear.

Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police, reportedly visited the area to assess the situation.

According to reports, personnel from three police stations were deployed at the spot. Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and Naseem’s death.

Details regarding arrests, the identification of all those accused and further legal action were not immediately available.
