Shiv Sena UBT demand Rohingya deportation in Jammu amid crackdown on undocumented migrants in Uttar Pradesh

Manish Sahni, president of Shiv Sena UBT in Jammu and Kashmir, issued a 15-day ultimatum to Union Territory authorities to begin deportations of the Rohingya refugees

Calls by Hindutva groups for the deportation of Rohingya Muslims in Jammu city have intensified following a crackdown on undocumented migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar in several Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh.

The UP government has begun identifying and sending undocumented migrants to detention centers, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urging the public not to provide shelter or support to them.

Manish Sahni, president of Shiv Sena UBT in Jammu and Kashmir, issued a 15-day ultimatum to Union Territory authorities to begin deportations of the Rohingya Refugees. He warned that if action is not taken within this period, party workers may take independent measures.

Shiv Sena UBT is part of the Opposition INDIA bloc, which also includes the National Conference, the party currently governing Jammu and Kashmir.

Sahni described Jammu and Kashmir as a sensitive region with persistent security risks, saying illegal migrants pose a “major challenge.” He alleged some Rohingya residents have been involved in theft, drug-related offenses, and other crimes, while more than 200 are currently detained in Kathua Jail.

Shiv Sena UBT and other organisations staged protests in different parts of Jammu, calling on authorities to implement measures similar to Uttar Pradesh’s approach. Protesters claimed that some Rohingya residents have access to basic utilities and are living in makeshift shelters on government land.

Sahni urged the government to launch a coordinated campaign for identification, arrest, and deportation, including the establishment of a dedicated detention center. He warned that inaction within 15 days could trigger larger and more intense protests in the city.
