After the reports of India and Pakistan locking horns on Line of Control, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, said, “It is time to end the long night of suffering for the people of Occupied Kashmir,” and added that the people of Kashmir must be allowed to exercise their right to self determination according to United Nation SC resolutions.
Tweeting a thread on his official twitter handle, he wrote, “The only road to peace & security in South Asia runs through a peaceful & just settlement of Kashmir.”
In another tweet, condemning India’s attack across LoC he said, “Use of cluster munitions in violation of int humanitarian law and it’s own commitments under the 1983 Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons. UNSC must take note of this international threat to peace & security.”
Talking regarding United State’s President, Donald Trump’s offer to mediate in the issue, he wrote, “President Trump offered to mediate on Kashmir. This is the time to do so as situation deteriorates there and along the LOC with new aggressive actions being taken by Indian occupation forces. This has the potential to blow up into a regional crisis.”
Earlier this week, Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday issued security advisory in the interest of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims and tourists.
In an order isssued by Government of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Secretariat Home Department it is mentioned that in the interest of safety and security of tourists and Amarnath Yatris, it is advised that they may curtail their stay in the valley immediately and take necessary measures to return as soon as possible”, keeping in view the latest intelligence inputs of terror threats.
On Saturday, a joint press conference by army and police officers was held in Srinagar, accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorism. Army’s Chinar Corps Commander Lt. General KJS Dhillon said that Pakistan was trying to disrupt peace in Kashmir, and added ammunition cache was recovered en route to Amarnath Yatra, thwarting attack.
“Pakistan army landmines have also been recovered,” said Mr. Dhillon. “This clearly indicates that Pakistan Army is involved in terrorism in Kashmir. An M-24 American sniper rifle with a telescope was also recovered from a terror cache along the Amarnath Yatra route.”
In reaction to the additional deployment of troops, Director General of Police (J-K) Dilbag Singh told the media that it was due to “inputs that violence levels are likely to be increased by militants” so the security grid has been strengthened. “Also, we’ve been told that troops must get time to relax. This is time for turnover,” he added.
