Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will continue struggle Against CAA until it is revoked: Working Committee of JUH

A daylong meeting of the working committee of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (WCJUH) was held under the presidentship of Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansurpoori to deliberate upon CAA, ongoing anti CAA protests, police high handedness and other pressing issues. Maulana Mahmood Madani, General Secretary of Jamait Ulama-i-Hind shed light upon the implications of CAA and about intention of the government. Lawyer Shakil Ahmad Sayed who is also member of (WCJUH) briefed about likely negative impact of the CAA and also presented a report about the writ petition filed by JUH in the Supreme Court. After much deliberation, JUH Working Committee unanimously decided to continue its struggle against this draconian law across the country until it is withdrawn.
As part of its struggle, it decided to convene a representative meeting of renowned persons belonging to every religion to chalk out an effective strategy against this law. It will also organize anti CAA demonstrations in Delhi and other major cities across the country. Members of the JUH will also meet with members of like-minded political parties to convince them for taking active participation against this controversial law. JUH while expressing its deep sympathy with those killed in anti CAA protest also decided to extend financial help of one lakh rupees to the next of the kins of them. JUH will also provide legal help to the affected.

JUH while adopting a resolution against CAA reiterates that
“The Working Committee of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (WCJUH) outrightly condemns CAA which is in contravention to the Indian Constitution as apparently it negates Articles 14 and 21 of the Indian Constitution. While defining ‘illegal migrant’ the Act discriminates on religious ground making it applicable only to Muslims and exempting Non-Muslims from its purview. It is to be noted that in principle, Jamiat is not opposed to granting citizenship to any non-Muslims, but in this particular context, discrimination has been made on the religious ground that is against the spirit of the Constitution. No doubt this act has put a question mark over the secular edifice of the Constitution. This controversial law will have its negative impact on those Assamese who have been left out in NRC. Non-Muslim citizens will get relief from this Act but Muslims will be declared illegal migrants. Every Muslim of the country feels deeply apprehensive about this law. If NRC is conducted all across the country and if Muslims fail to produce relevant documents, they will be regarded as doubtful citizens. It is quite natural that in this case, this Law and its impact on NRC will produce concerns. Therefore, apprehensions have to be allayed. With that in view, JUH demands withdrawal of this deeply divisive law. Otherwise it will continue its protests and demonstration across the country until this controversial law is withdrawn.

Resolution on Police brutality against CAA demonstrators and protestors.
“(Working Committee of JUH while deeply appreciating the anti CAA demonstrations across the country sternly condemns every form of violence whether committed by police or demonstrators. In a democratic set up citizen has right to peaceful protest. Therefore, JUH demands from the government not to stop peaceful demonstrations, Otherwise it will generate more provocation. JUH condemns highhandedness and brutality of the Yogi government against the CAA protestors in the state. CM Yogi’s wording as part of encouraging police brutality reminds us of British era. This deserves maximum condemnation. JUH appeals to the agitators to continue their peaceful protest and exercise caution from anti-social elements and never get provoked. Remain peaceful and never take law and order into own hands. Otherwise, It will sabotage their movements.
