President Kovind appoints Sunil Arora as new Chief Election Commissioner

Sunil Arora will take charge on December 2, replacing the incumbent CEC OP Rawat.

MT News Network|New Delhi| President Kovind appoints Sunil Arora as new Chief Election Commissioner

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Sunil Arora as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), replacing the OP Rawat. Arora will take charge on December 2.

Rawat has played an instrumental in pitching for extensive use of VVPAT machines to check any irregularities in the voting machines (EVMs). He has also underlined the perils of fake news and the adverse impact it has on the electoral processes. The outgoing CEC has also been reasserting that simultaneous elections at the central and state levels are virtually impossible without a proper legal framework
