Saudi FM joins mediation efforts, meets Pakistani FM in Islamabad for Quad talks

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah arrived today in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad to participate in the quadrilateral ministerial meeting, which includes the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Republic of Türkiye.

Pakistan hosted the quadrilateral ministerial meeting as part of its efforts to mediate an end to the month-long conflict between the US-Israeli alliance and Iran. Islamabad has been actively serving as a key intermediary, shuttling proposals between Washington and Tehran—including a 15-point US framework and a five-point Iranian counter-proposal—while also securing a confidence-building measure that allows 20 Pakistani-flagged vessels to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz .

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of the quadrilateral ministerial meeting.“During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and discussed joint efforts regarding regional developments,” the Saudi foreign ministry said in a post on X.

The meeting comes within the framework of consultation and coordination among the participating countries to discuss developments in the region and ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and enhance regional security, the Saudi foreign ministry said referring to the quadrilateral meeting.

Pakistani foreign ministry said on X that both officials “will engage in comprehensive consultations on the evolving regional situation.” “The visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to sustained dialogue, close coordination and enhanced cooperation in addressing evolving regional developments,” the ministry said.

The meeting was convened at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Ministers during the consultations will review the evolving regional situation and discuss issues of mutual interest, the ministry added.
