New Delhi
Press Release
Last week young students of KG and nursery classes of Rabia Girls School of Old Delhi were reportedly made to spend hours locked in a basement room for failure to pay fees. Delhi Minorities Commission has issued notices to the school principal, Director of Education (School Branch) and DCP of the Central District to reply on what legal basis the confinement of these children was made, do rules allow schools to lock young children for long periods without facilities and without the supervision of a teacher, and what action has been taken against those responsible for the episode.
At the same time, DMC Chairman Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan has written to Samar Hamid, secretary of Hamdard Education Society, which runs Rabia Girls School, that though DMC fully supports punishment to those responsible for the said episode, it opposes the use of this incident to close down Rabia Girls School and DMC will offer all help to Hamdard Education Society in this respect.
