The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced on Saturday that its protest in the national capital will now be led by Ajinkya Shinde, as the party’s planned demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar continues amid heightened security and police action.
The protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in the national capital gathered momentum on Saturday as activist Neha Bora, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan and Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav reached Dilli Haat and began marching, according to the information provided.
In a post on X, AISA national president Neha Bora wrote, “Dilli Haat becomes Jantar Mantar today! See you there!” The message signalled the continuing mobilisation of student activists and supporters in Delhi amid restrictions surrounding the planned demonstration.
The CJP also announced on its official X account that Ajinkya Shinde would lead the protest. The announcement comes after reports that CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other party leaders were detained by Delhi Police after arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The protest was originally planned at Jantar Mantar on October 10, with the party demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The CJP has argued that the electoral process requires greater transparency and accountability.
The demonstration has also drawn support from student organisations, including the All India Students’ Association (AISA), the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF).
Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed gathering, citing procedural and public-order concerns. Authorities also introduced security measures and restrictions around parts of the capital ahead of the protest.
The CJP’s announcement naming Shinde as the protest leader indicates that the party intends to continue its mobilisation despite the reported detentions of its leaders. However, the precise location and status of the demonstration, as well as Shinde’s role on the ground, require further confirmation.
The developments highlight the ongoing confrontation between the protest organisers and authorities over the planned demonstration, which has placed electoral transparency and the right to protest at the centre of the political debate.
