Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most vital energy chokepoint serves as the global oil trade, will remain “completely open” as long as Pakistan’s brokered ceasefire remains as well as in line with the truce in Lebanon.

Hours after this announcement, US President Donald Trump said the naval blockade will remain in place until the US-Iran transaction is 100 per cent completed.

In a post on X, Iran’s Foreign Minister has announced that “in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran”.

According to Iran’s state TV, a senior Iranian military official, commenting on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, reported that only non-military vessels can transit through designated routes and with IRGC Navy approval, while civilian ships must follow routes set by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.

In his social media post on Truth Social, US President wrote,”the Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but the naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete.” He further added most points are already negotiated and the process should go “very quickly”.

The Strait of Hormuz, a international sea passage as well as the sole maritime exit for one-fifth of the global energy. It is an essential trade corridor that supports regional and global economic prosperity, through which 20 percent of global seaborne oil transits has been basically shut since March 2. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow stretch of water located between Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman.

The blockade implemented by US navy reportedly stretches from the Omani coast near Ras al Hadd to the Iran-Pakistan border.
