Odisha PG Medical Exam Paper Shared on WhatsApp During Test, University Orders Probe

An Odisha postgraduate medical examination question paper was shared on social media while the test was allegedly in progress, prompting the Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) to order an internal inquiry, PTI reported on Friday.
Photographs of the paper were circulated on WhatsApp during the general surgery theory examination for the 2023-26 batch on Monday, according to the report.

A preliminary inquiry indicated that someone at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur shared images of the question paper minutes after it had been distributed to candidates, The Indian Express quoted an unidentified official as saying.

The alleged breach came to light after a student at a private medical college in Bhubaneswar, who was reportedly in possession of the images, alerted authorities.

Following the incident, OUHS Vice Chancellor Manas Ranjan Sahoo held a virtual meeting with principals of medical colleges where the examinations were conducted, The Times of India reported.

MKCG Medical College Principal Harekrushna Dalai said the vice chancellor had instructed institutions to strengthen security measures for the remaining examinations.

Dalai said the incident should not be classified as a question paper leak.

“Had the question paper come out before it reached the students, we could have termed it a leak,” The Times of India quoted the principal as saying. “But in this case, the question paper came out from the exam hall.”

The theory examinations began on July 21, with two papers scheduled for Aug. 1 and Aug. 5. More than 150 students are appearing for the examinations at the Berhampur college.

The incident comes days after Parliament passed amendments to a law aimed at curbing examination paper leaks, following nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The changes provide for tougher penalties, require investigations to be completed within two months and establish a Special Task Force to investigate serious examination-related offences.
