Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited a Delhi police station with a 19-year-old man who alleged that he was injured by pellet-gun fire during a July 20 protest and that police had not registered an FIR in the case.

Gandhi first went to Connaught Place police station with Sahil Lochab and was later told that New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma was at the Parliament Street police station. Gandhi then went there with Lochab and sought an update on the complaint.

According to the Congress, police did not register an FIR following Lochab’s complaint, after which Gandhi sat outside the Parliament Street station in protest.

The Congress has alleged that Rapid Action Force personnel used pellet guns during the July 20 “Sansad Chalo” march. Delhi Police has denied using pellet guns during the protest, while the Central Reserve Police Force has not publicly commented on the allegation.

Lochab has said he sustained pellet-related injuries during the protest. Accounts from other injured protesters, medical records and an India Today investigation have also raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the reported injuries and the use of pellet guns.

Violence broke out on July 20 when hundreds of students attempted to march towards Parliament to demand the resignation of the then education minister over alleged examination paper leaks. The minister resigned several days later.

Visuals showed Gandhi entering the Parliament Street police station with Lochab and other Congress leaders before later sitting outside the station.
