Students travelling to Delhi report attempts to remove them from a train, CJP alleges assault and detentions in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, while Mumbai activists claim restrictions on their movement, and SFI reports police visits to its Delhi office.

Days before a planned mass protest in New Delhi on October 10, student organisations, political activists and civil society groups have reported alleged police action across several states, raising concerns about the freedom of assembly, movement and political participation.

The protest, organised by a coalition of activists and organisations, demands the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.

The All India Students’ Federation (AISF) alleged that police attempted to forcibly remove its student delegation from the Goa Express while travelling from Pune to Delhi. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) accused Rajasthan Police of assaulting and detaining its national spokesperson, Deepak Baliyan, and alleged that Madhya Pradesh Police detained its volunteers travelling from Telangana.

In Mumbai, two civil society activists were reportedly detained and later released on the condition that they remain in the city. Meanwhile, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) alleged that Delhi Police personnel visited its central office and sought details of activists travelling to the capital for the demonstration.

The organisations have condemned the alleged actions, describing them as attempts to discourage participation in the October 10 mobilisation.

The All India Students’ Federation condemned what it described as an “unconstitutional and unlawful” attempt by police to detain its student delegation travelling from Pune to New Delhi aboard the 12779 Goa Express.

According to AISF, a police contingent boarded the train when it reached Bhusawal and attempted to forcibly remove the students from their compartment.
