Five Muslim cattle traders were allegedly assaulted and robbed by a group of people in Madhepur, Madhubani district, in the early hours of October 19, 2026. The incident reportedly took place around 4 am when the traders were travelling with their cattle to Shivshankar Bhaveshi Haat in Laufa.

The victims’ families told Millat Times that a group of people surrounded the traders and demanded money. The attackers allegedly first demanded ₹5,000, which the traders paid. However, they were reportedly asked to pay another ₹50,000. When the traders could not meet the additional demand, they were allegedly assaulted, and their cash was snatched.

The victims have been identified as Shamsuddin (55), Kaleem Khan (45), Mohammad Irshad, and two drivers, Kari and Ram Kumar. All five are reportedly residents of Saroja Bela and belong to economically weaker families.

The victims have named two individuals, identified as Shukla and Ajit Chaudhary, among those allegedly involved in the attack. They further alleged that several people attempted to lynch them. All five traders reportedly sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.

A video showing the alleged assault has gone viral on social media, drawing attention to the incident. The victims’ families have also demanded that the video be removed from social media platforms.

Reacting to the incident, Abdullah Khan, a relative of Shamsuddin, said the victims deserve justice and urged the administration to take immediate action.

“We want justice for our brothers who were brutally assaulted and robbed in Madhepur. All five victims belong to poor families and were simply trying to earn their livelihood. We urge the administration to conduct a fair investigation, take strict legal action against those responsible, ensure the safety of cattle traders and protect them from further threats. We appeal for immediate action,” Abdullah Khan told Millat Times.

Abdullah Khan also told Millat Times that the victims have not filed an FIR because they are afraid. He said the traders fear further threats and harassment following the alleged attack. He urged the administration to ensure their safety so that they can approach the authorities and seek justice without fear.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Madhepur told Millat Times that the police were not aware of the incident. He said the police would take action if someone brought the matter or relevant information to their attention.

“We are not aware of this incident. If someone brings it to our attention or shares relevant information with us, we will definitely take action,” the SHO of Madhepur told Millat Times.

According to local residents, Shivshankar Bhaveshi Haat in Laufa is an old cattle market where Hindu and Muslim traders have traditionally conducted business together. They said such an incident had not previously been reported at the market.

The victims reportedly possess receipts issued by the market authorities, including a receipt dated August 22, 2023, for ₹2,900, which they cite as evidence of their regular trading activity.

Following the incident, traders have expressed fear over their safety. The victims’ families and local residents have urged the administration to conduct an impartial investigation, identify everyone involved, take appropriate legal action against those responsible and ensure adequate security for cattle traders. They have also appealed to the authorities to ensure that the victims can approach the police and seek justice without fear.
