India: Health Ministry informs 909 new COVID-19 cases , 34 deaths in past 24 hrs

The total number of novel coronavirus cases in the world’s second-most populous country, India has risen to 8,447, while the death toll mounted to 276, with the fast-spreading virus in various parts of the country, according to the Union Health Ministry. The number of active COVID-19 cases reached over 7,409, while 765 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated, the ministry stated. Over 1,797,804 people have been infected with the coronavirus across the globe, with global death toll rising to 110,075.

As many as 909 new Covid cases and 34 more deaths appeared in last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 8,447 while casualties to 276, Union Health Ministry said here on Sunday. In the daily press briefing, Union Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said, ‘Total number of COVID-19 cases so far is 8,447. Since yesterday, there are additional 909 cases and 34 new deaths.

Maharashtra, which became the third state to announce an extension in the lockdown after Odisha and Punjab even before an official extension to the nationwide lockdown, was much more clearer in announcing that areas identified as hotspots of the virus spread would see stricter curbs while restrictions would be relaxed in unaffected areas.

Ever since its emergence in China last December, more than 17 lakh people have tested positive for this deadly virus globally, while more than 1 lakh people have died. The US reported more than 2,000 deaths in a single day on Friday, while France also reported over 1,000 deaths in a day. An estimated 3.4 lakh people are considered to have recovered from COVID-19 so far.
