A cleric from Bihar’s Bhagalpur has alleged that he was brutally attacked during a train journey while returning home from Varanasi, claiming he was targeted because of his religious identity.
According to Maulana Mazhar Hussain, the incident took place on June 27, 2026, near Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction (formerly Mughalsarai Junction). He alleged that a group of 3 men wearing saffron scarves assaulted him with stones lying along the railway tracks, leaving him with serious injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

Religious Profiling Led to Violent Assault
Maulana Hussain claimed that the attackers made objectionable remarks about his beard and skullcap before assaulting him. He alleged that he was specifically targeted because of his religious identity.
According to his account, he managed to escape the attackers and reached Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction. However, after arriving at the station, his condition reportedly worsened, and he collapsed unconscious.
Railway staff allegedly rushed to his aid and shifted him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the police regarding the alleged attack. Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether an FIR has been registered, whether an investigation has been launched, or if any arrests have been made.
