Muzaffarpur, Bihar: A departmental inquiry has been ordered against a police officer in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur after a video showing him performing sword stunts during a Muharram procession while in uniform went viral on social media.
The officer has been identified as Sub-Inspector Mustakim Khan, who was reportedly deployed for law-and-order duty during the Muharram Tazia procession in the Kanti police station area of the district.
The viral video, approximately 29 seconds long, appears to show the uniformed officer wielding a sword and demonstrating sword-fighting moves amid a large gathering. Some online posts claimed that the officer left his assigned duty, carried out the sword display while wearing his service revolver, and shouted religious slogans during the procession.
Taking cognisance of the viral footage, Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra issued a show-cause notice to Sub-Inspector Khan and directed him to report to the police lines. The SSP has also ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.
Officials said disciplinary action would be taken if the investigation establishes that the officer violated the police code of conduct or engaged in any form of indiscipline while on duty.
The incident has triggered widespread debate on social media, with many users demanding strict action against the officer, while others have called for a fair inquiry before any conclusions are drawn.
The departmental investigation is currently underway, and authorities are expected to take further action based on its findings.
