A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were found dead on railway tracks in Jamtara district on Saturday morning. The deaths have prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The bodies were discovered between Vidyasagar and Madankata railway stations, between railway poles 271/4 and 271/6. Railway patrolling personnel spotted them and alerted the authorities.

A team from Karmatanr police station reached the scene and began an investigation as local residents gathered nearby. The deceased were identified as Rocky Mandal and Nazia Khatoon, both residents of Ringechingo village.

Karmatanr police station officer-in-charge Alakh Nath Chubey said a motorcycle was found parked near a newly constructed water tank close to the railway tracks. Police traced its owner through the vehicle’s registration number, which helped them contact the families and establish the identities of the deceased.

Mobile phones, footwear and a gold locket were also reportedly recovered from the scene. The bodies were sent to Jamtara for post-mortem examinations.

According to villagers, Rocky and Nazia had known each other for several years. Their relationship had reportedly led to the intervention of a local panchayat because they belonged to different communities.

Villagers claimed that Rocky’s family was fined and the two were instructed to stay apart. Police also said their investigation revealed that Nazia, who was a minor, had been married approximately a year earlier. Officials said no case had been registered in connection with the minor’s marriage at the time of reporting.

According to reports, Rocky had been missing since midnight on Friday. The circumstances leading to the deaths remain unclear.

Police are investigating the case, and further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the post-mortem examinations. No official conclusion about the cause or manner of death had been reported at the time of publication.
