A 16-year-old boy was killed by a group of men in East Delhi. His family says the attack was targeted – and that police have done little to act.

What Happened?
On Friday, May 1, 2025, a teenage boy named Ayaan Saifi was stabbed to death in Trilokpuri, East Delhi. He was 16 years old.

According to his family, Ayaan was playing with a friend in a local park when a group of 8 to 10 men – described as adults aged 30 to 35 years – surrounded and attacked him. The attackers chased Ayaan before stabbing him multiple times in the back, stomach, and legs, also injuring his hand severely.

He was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and later referred to AIIMS due to the critical nature of his injuries. Despite medical intervention, Ayaan did not survive.

A Mother’s Only Child
Ayaan was raised by his mother, Meena, who brought him up as a single parent. He was her only child. Family members described him as a student who also helped with household responsibilities.

“They weren’t boys. They were big, heavily built men… My child was just 16,” a relative told reporters, visibly distressed.

The Alleged Motive
The family claims the attack was premeditated and connected to a local dispute involving a person named “Chunnu Vakil” – someone Ayaan had no direct relationship with.

“He had no enmity with anyone. They killed him over someone else’s issue,” a relative said. The family further alleged that Ayaan had previously received threats, and that attackers had used communal slurs like “musalla” and “katua”. They said Ayaan had gone to the police with complaints about these threats before his death, but that no effective action was taken.

Allegations of Police Negligence
At the centre of the family’s grief is a serious allegation: that the police have been slow to act.

Before he died, Ayaan was briefly conscious and gave a video-recorded statement to police, reportedly naming five attackers. However, the family claims officers later told them the statement only contained two names.
CCTV footage from the area reportedly shows 7 to 8 individuals attacking Ayaan. Yet, more than three days after the incident – and even after Ayaan had been buried – the family says they had received no meaningful update from the police. “We get no response,” relatives told Millat Times.

One accused reportedly told the family that his uncle was a lawyer who would get them released.

A Mother’s Plea
Ayaan’s mother, Meena, broke down while speaking to reporters, demanding that authorities take swift action.

She drew a comparison to the March 2025 murder of a young man named Tarun in Uttam Nagar, which occurred during a Holi clash and was followed by swift government response, including the use of bulldozers against the accused.

“When Tarun was killed, bulldozers were used. But here, so much time has passed and nothing has happened,” Meena said, appealing directly to Delhi BJP leader Rekha Gupta for intervention. “I have no one else. Grant me justice,” she said.

Where Things Stand
Police have reportedly informed the family that some of the accused have been detained, but no formal details or charges have been publicly disclosed at the time of reporting. An eyewitness who spoke to Millat Times corroborated the family’s account of both the attack and the police’s handling of the case.

The incident has drawn significant outrage from the community, with the family insisting that Ayaan was targeted because of his religious identity.

The family continues to await accountability. For Meena, every passing day without justice is another reminder that her only child is gone – and that those responsible remain free.
