At least 73 civilians were injured in attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group targeting cities and economic infrastructure in southern Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-led military coalition said on Tuesday.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis had targeted civilian and commercial facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran.
Women and children were among those injured, al-Maliki said, describing the attacks as a serious escalation and a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty.
He accused the Houthis of deliberately targeting civilian areas and said the attacks threatened efforts to maintain peace and stability in Yemen and the wider region.
The coalition’s Joint Forces Command would take operational measures to deter further attacks and protect Saudi citizens, al-Maliki said.
The coalition also said it would take steps to neutralise the sources of the threat.
