The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has extended its support to the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, joining the Opposition’s campaign against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In a statement shared ahead of the rally, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke declared, “Gyanu must go! The Cockroach Janta Party extends its support to the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally. Nation above all!”

The party said the Election Commission’s handling of the SIR exercise has raised serious questions about the protection of citizens’ voting rights. It argued that Gyanesh Kumar has “lost the trust required to oversee free and fair elections” and called his resignation necessary to restore the credibility and independence of the constitutional institution.

Emphasising the importance of electoral democracy, the party said the fundamental principle of democracy is that citizens choose their government, rather than governments deciding who gets to vote.

The CJP expressed concern that the voter-list revision exercise could result in eligible citizens being excluded from electoral rolls. It said the Election Commission must safeguard every eligible citizen’s right to vote instead of creating obstacles to its exercise.

The party also invoked the vision of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who played a central role in drafting the Indian Constitution, highlighting the principle of equal voting rights for every adult citizen, irrespective of caste, religion, gender, education or economic background.

Recalling the early years of independent India, the statement said Jawaharlal Nehru, Ambedkar and other makers of the Constitution placed their faith in ordinary citizens, even when millions had little or no experience of participating in elections.

“The idea was simple: bring more citizens into democracy, not keep them out of it,” the party said.

The CJP’s announcement comes as the INDIA bloc prepares for its planned rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The Opposition has made electoral transparency, alleged irregularities in voter-list revisions and the protection of voting rights central to its campaign.

The party said it would support organisations working to ensure free and fair elections and called for efforts to prevent eligible voters from being deprived of their constitutional rights.

Concluding its statement with the slogans “Jai Bhim. Jai Hind,” the CJP reiterated its support for the Opposition’s campaign and its demand for accountability from the Election Commission.

The November 1 rally is expected to bring the Opposition’s concerns over the SIR process into sharper focus, with the independence of the Election Commission and the protection of voting rights likely to remain key issues.
