Dalit man assaulted, forced to drink urine after quitting job in Madhya Pradesh

A 25-year-old Dalit man, Gyan Singh Jatav, was allegedly abducted, brutally assaulted, and forced to drink urine twice by three men in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district after quitting his job as a driver, reported PTI.

Jatav, who was working as a driver for Sonu Barua, one of the accused, had recently left his job. Upset over this, Barua, along with Alok Sharma and Chhotu Ojha, allegedly abducted Jatav from his Gwalior home.

During the drive to Bhind, the trio reportedly beat Jatav with a plastic pipe, forced him to consume alcohol, and made him drink urine from the same bottle. The abuse allegedly continued upon arrival in Bhind, where he was chained and beaten again. Jatav was later hospitalised with serious injuries.

All three accused have been arrested. Authorities have registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita covering kidnapping and assault.

In a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, a 60-year-old Dalit man, Rampal Rawat, was allegedly forced to lick spilled water near a temple to prove it wasn’t urine.

The accused, Swami Kant (62), reportedly accused Rawat of urinating near the Sheetla Maataa Mandir in Kakori after water spilled from Rawat’s bottle. When Rawat denied the allegation, Kant allegedly forced him to lick the water as punishment.

A complaint was filed the following day, and police arrested Kant. He has been charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
