Israeli airstrikes across Gaza killed at least eight people, including two children, overnight into Sunday, Al Jazeera reported, extending the death toll to 18 over three days since U.S. President Donald Trump said his “Board of Peace” had reached what he called a breakthrough agreement.
The latest fatalities were reported in western Gaza City, areas northwest of Khan Younis, and near Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza.
According to Al Jazeera, those killed in western Gaza City included Abdullah Abu Taif, his wife Abeer Anan and their son Azzam. Near Khan Younis, three members of the Al-Hams family — Mahmoud, his wife Fatima and their daughter — were also killed.
In central Gaza, a strike on a house killed 68-year-old Kamu Abu Muailiq and his wife Huda, the broadcaster quoted medical officials as saying.
The latest strikes came days after Trump announced that his “Board of Peace” had secured an agreement that he described as a “monumental step toward lasting peace and security” in West Asia.
On Thursday, Trump said the proposed deal called for the “complete disarmament” of the Palestinian militant group Hamas and “all other armed” organisations operating in Gaza.
Hamas said on Friday it had accepted the proposal, which AFP reported would involve the group surrendering its weapons while Israeli forces would gradually withdraw from the Gaza Strip.
Israel has not officially responded to the reported agreement. However, AFP quoted an unidentified political source as saying Israeli troops would not withdraw until Hamas’ “genuine disarmament”.
Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza after Hamas fighters killed about 1,200 people during their October 2023 attack on southern Israel and took hostages. Since then, Israel has carried out sustained air and ground operations in the enclave, with more than 73,300 people reported killed.
In September, the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry said Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
In June, the commission said the Israeli military had deliberately targeted and killed Palestinian children as part of a genocide. The panel said Israeli forces had killed more than 20,000 children and injured 44,000 since October 2023.
