A mosque in Telangana was vandalised by unidentified persons, with the Qur’an desecrated, prompting demands for swift action from community leaders.
Worshippers at the Jama Masjid in Jalalpur village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district said they found damaged walls, broken window panes and washroom doors when they arrived for prayers on Monday. Several copies of the holy book were discovered strewn across the floor and appeared to have been desecrated, local media reported.
Empty beer and whisky bottles were also found on the premises, according to the reports.
Local residents said unidentified individuals had allegedly forced entry into the mosque and ransacked parts of the building, including religious scriptures.
Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek, condemned the incident and called on police to register a criminal case, identify those responsible and ensure they are punished under the law.
Residents urged authorities to act swiftly and transparently, saying failure to do so could heighten communal tensions. Community leaders also called on the Telangana government to strengthen security at religious sites to prevent similar incidents.
