Jammu and Kashmir: Police arrest man accused of vandalising mosque in Reasi district

Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday that it arrested a Hindu man days after he allegedly vandalised a mosque and assauled a person on the premises in Reasi district.

The accused Pyar Singh is a resident of Patian village in Thuroo Tehsil of the district, they said.

Police said the accused was arrested in connection with the Sukhcha Masjid incident after a case was registered at Police Station Arnas under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

he case was registered under Section 331(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (house-trespass or house-breaking by night after preparation for causing hurt or assault), Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 298 (injuring or defiling a place of worship or sacred object with intent to insult a religion), and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation).

Police held a meeting with locals and apprised them of the action taken in the mater. They also urged the public to maintain peace and harmony, adding that any attempt to diturb public order would be dealt sternly.
