The Embassy of Palestine in New Delhi has welcomed India’s decision to establish three development projects for Palestinians; a specialty hospital, an artificial limb fitment centre and a vocational training institute.

The projects were announced by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the launch of India’s campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2028-29, according to the Palestinian embassy.

The embassy said the announcement came as Palestinians, particularly in Gaza, continue to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with the territory’s healthcare infrastructure badly damaged and medical supplies in short supply.

“India’s commitment to establish a Specialty Hospital and an Artificial Limb Fitment Centre will make a meaningful contribution to strengthening healthcare services,” the embassy said in a statement issued on July 15.

It said the artificial limb centre would help Palestinians who have lost limbs and require rehabilitation, prosthetic services and long-term medical care.

The proposed vocational training institute, the embassy said, would help young Palestinians acquire skills needed to rebuild their communities and economy.

The Palestinian mission also welcomed what it described as India’s reaffirmation of its longstanding support for a negotiated two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security.

It also welcomed India’s support for full UN membership for the State of Palestine and continued humanitarian and development cooperation.

The embassy thanked the Indian government and people for what it called their continued friendship, humanitarian support and commitment to peace, justice, international law and a two-state solution.

India has historically maintained ties with the Palestinian leadership while also developing close relations with Israel. New Delhi has repeatedly backed a two-state solution and provided humanitarian and development assistance to Palestinians.

The latest commitments add a development and reconstruction component to India’s support, particularly in healthcare and skills training.

The Palestinian embassy said the projects would be particularly significant given the scale of destruction in Gaza and the long-term needs of its population.
