All India Muslim Personal Law Board Announces Legal Battle in Press Conference

Today at 3:30 PM, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) organized a press conference at the Press Club of India. AIMPLB spokesperson SQR Ilyas, along with Amir-e-Shariat Faisal Wali Rahmani and a total of 6 others, addressed the delayed start of the press conference. SQR Ilyas mentioned that the board successfully concluded a meeting of its working committee earlier today, passing 8 resolutions.

In the first resolution, the board criticized a recent Supreme Court verdict on the Telangana Muslim couple’s divorce and maintenance case, terming it as against the Shariah Application Act. The board resolved to initiate a legal battle on this matter.

The second resolution opposed the Uniform Civil Code, citing it as against the country’s diversity. SQR Ilyas emphasized the board’s stance for unity in diversity and called on central and state governments not to enforce the Uniform Civil Code.

The third resolution focused on waqf property, urging the government to refrain from amending any laws related to waqf. The board also appealed to trustees of waqf properties to prevent misuse.

Regarding the fourth resolution on the Places of Worship Act, the board expressed dissatisfaction with the recent decision related to Babri Masjid and highlighted new challenges against the act.

In the fifth resolution, the board asserted India’s potential role in stopping the Palestine-Israel conflict and ensuring justice for Palestinians.

Lastly, addressing the surge in mob lynching cases after the Lok Sabha elections, AIMPLB spokesperson SQR Ilyas expressed concern that mob lynching poses a threat to the rule of law. He emphasized the need for strict action against perpetrators.

Apart from this, AIMPLB informed that its working committee comprises 51 members, including 5 women. Besides SQR Ilyas, Monisha Bushra Abidi also addressed journalists, criticizing recent Supreme Court rulings for not protecting women’s rights. She emphasized that such decisions complicate rather than ease women’s lives, advocating for women’s empowerment and dignity.

In addition to Monisha Bushra Abidi, Atiya Siddiqua, Fazlur Rahim Mujaddedi, and board member Kamal Farooqui were also present at the press conference.
