Valpoi (Goa)“I feel that women should be respected not just because they are women but also because they are individuals with their own identity” said Valpoi Municipal Council, Chairperson, Parvin Shaikh while speaking at the felicitation function organised by Phoenix Women’s Wing Self Help Group on the occasion of International Women’s Day with theme ‘Time is now: Rural and Urban activist transforming women’s lives’ at Valpoi.
Speaking further, Parvin said that today woman is no longer a dependent soul she is independent and self-reliant in every aspect and is capable of doing everything. Other dignitaries present on the dais were councillors, Akthar Shah and Parvin Khan, President of PWWSHG, Shuneza Khan and President of Phoenix Socio Cultural Association, Abdulla Khan.
While speaking Akhtar Shah said that woman always sacrifice for others and remains to be very important pillar in everyone life in whichever role they are. He further lauded the efforts of PWWSHG for celebrating this day. Earlier, VMC Chief Officer, Cynthia Misquita, Medical student, Alfiya Khan and VMC community organiser, Pradnya Narvekar were felicitated at the hands of VMC Chairperson, Parvin Shaikh for their contribution in the respective field.
Later, advocacy talk on menstrual hygiene was delivered by star director, Dream Touch, Aruna Rane. Sanitary pads were also distributed for 150 women participated in the programme. Games and entertainment events were also held.
