Maulana Azad University Chairperson and Two Others Arrested in 140 Bigha Land Case

Police Take Three into Custody, Including Retired RAS Officer, in Land Transfer Investigation

In an ongoing investigation related to a land transfer case, the Boranada police on Saturday arrested three individuals, including Maulana Azad University Chairperson Mohammad Atiq Gauri, retired RAS officer and university registrar Anwar Ali, and Nisar Ahmed Khilji. The case revolves around the transfer of 140 bighas of land in Bujhawad village, which was originally allotted to the Marwar Muslim Education and Welfare Society for educational purposes.

Authorities are examining whether the transfer of this state-allotted land to Maulana Azad University was carried out following proper legal procedures. Questions have been raised about the documentation and approvals involved, prompting a detailed investigation into the matter. While the case has been under scrutiny for some time, the recent arrests indicate that law enforcement agencies are looking deeper into the specifics of the transaction.

Background of the Case and Investigation Progress

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Nishant Bhardwaj, the case was initially registered on April 9 following a complaint lodged by Abdul Nazim Belim, a resident of Kamala Nehru Nagar, at Boranada police station. The complaint led to a review of the land transfer records and related documentation.

As part of the investigation, the police have taken into custody:

  • Mohammad Atiq Gauri, a resident of Merti Gate, who currently serves as the chairperson of Maulana Abul Kalam University and was previously the vice president of the Muslim Education Society.
  • Anwar Ali, a retired RAS officer who holds the position of registrar at the society.
  • Nisar Ahmed Khilji, the former general secretary of the society.

Earlier in the case, a Final Report (FR) was filed by the police station officer, indicating no further action. However, after the case was reassigned to ACP Boranada for further review, new findings emerged, leading to the decision to proceed with arrests.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Review

Law enforcement agencies continue to examine all aspects of the case, including the legality of the land transfer process, the nature of the documents submitted, and whether all necessary approvals were obtained at the time of the transaction. Officials have stated that the investigation remains active, and further developments may arise as more details come to light.

While the arrests mark a significant step in the inquiry, authorities are focused on ensuring a thorough legal review of the matter. The case is expected to go through due legal procedures, with the concerned parties being given the opportunity to present their responses as the investigation progresses.
