Ghaziabad: A minor scratch on a car has cost a 17-year-old boy his life in Ghaziabad’s Loni area, in an incident that has left his family demanding answers and justice.

Mohammad Zaid, a resident of Mustafabad Colony, left home on Monday, June 29, telling his elder sister he was going for a swim and would bring her a cold drink on his way back. He never returned.

What Happened

According to Zaid’s family, he was riding home on a motorcycle with friends after visiting a swimming pool on the Behta Hajipur canal road when the bike’s handle grazed a Maruti Baleno car near the Indraprastha Gas Plant crossing. The car’s occupants, later identified as property dealer Rahul Mavi and his associate Anuj Kasana, got out and slapped Zaid and his two friends over the minor collision.

Zaid’s father told Millat Times that while they were returning, the bike’s handle lightly brushed against Rahul’s car. Rahul and the person with him got out and slapped Zaid and his two friends. Zaid asked him why he had been slapped, and he even gave Rahul ₹700–800 for a minor scratch. After taking the money, Rahul and his companion took Zaid’s bike and left. Later, one of Rahul’s associates called Zaid and told him to come to the Manish Properties office to collect the bike.

Zaid and his friends walked roughly 1–1.5 km to the office. Once there, according to the family, Zaid was brutally beaten – and continued to be assaulted even after he had already died. Mavi reportedly handed the bike key back to Zaid’s friends, warning them they would meet the same fate if they didn’t leave with him. The friends arranged a rickshaw and brought Zaid’s body back. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, father added.

The Police Account

Police confirmed that the incident followed a road rage dispute after the motorcycle collided with the car. An argument over compensation for the damage escalated at Mavi’s office, where the accused allegedly assaulted Zaid. His friends took him to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

A case was registered at Loni Border police station based on a complaint by Zaid’s brother, Shakir. Ankur Vihar ACP Amardeep Kumar Maurya said Mavi was arrested after police examined CCTV footage and other technical evidence; during questioning, he admitted to taking Zaid to his office and assaulting him, later learning that the teenager had died. Kasana was arrested separately from the Loni Border area. The Baleno car used in the incident has been seized, and additional legal sections have been invoked as the investigation continues.

Family Demands Stronger Action

While two men have been arrested, Zaid’s family says this is not enough. They have drawn a direct comparison to the case of Surya, killed in Ghaziabad’s Khoda area, where they say police encountered the accused within 24 hours and the victim’s family received swift support.

“Surya’s family got aid. What did we get? Nothing,” a family member told Millat Times, demanding the same standard of action and support in Zaid’s case.
