Members of the Hindu nationalist group Bajrang Dal entered a footwear showroom in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and wrote the word “jihadi” on the name tags of two Muslim employees during a confrontation over alleged workplace harassment, according to local media reports.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday, while videos of the confrontation began circulating on social media over the weekend.

Footage showed Bajrang Dal members confronting Muslim staff at the showroom and taking their name tags before writing “jihadi” on them.

Bajrang Dal is affiliated with a wider family of Hindu nationalist organisations led by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Vikas Verma, a Bajrang Dal convenor in Uttarakhand who was present during the incident, said the group acted after receiving complaints from Hindu employees against the showroom’s manager and co-manager, both Muslims, news agency PTI reported.

Verma alleged that Hindu workers were being made to work four extra hours without additional pay and were falsely accused of theft to justify salary deductions.

He said the group did not approach police because authorities had allegedly failed to act on similar complaints in the past.

Pramod Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City), said no formal complaint had been filed so far. “We will take action if anyone approaches the police,” he told PTI.
