The Bihar Government has announced a major relief for students involved in the NEET-UG protests. All Gen Z protesters arrested before 6:00 PM on 26 July will be released, and all cases registered against protesters until that deadline will be withdrawn.
The announcement was made through an official press release signed by Kshatraneel Singh, Special Secretary, Home Department, Government of Bihar. The notification states that the government will not initiate any punitive, retaliatory, or adverse legal action against individuals who participated in the protests anywhere in Bihar before 6:00 PM on 26 July 2026. It further confirms that all FIRs, complaints, and legal proceedings registered within this period will be withdrawn, and all those arrested or detained in these cases will be released at the earliest.
The Bihar Government’s decision has been widely welcomed as a constructive step towards resolving the situation. Opposition parties had also strongly raised the issue of the arrests in Parliament. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had warned that if the cases were not withdrawn by the night of 27 July, a larger statewide agitation would follow.
Meanwhile, Neha, representing AISA, travelled from Delhi to Patna and addressed a press conference highlighting the arrests of student protesters.
This marks a significant victory for the Gen Z movement, signalling that the government is seeking to de-escalate tensions rather than pursue further action against the protesters. The hope now is that all stakeholders return to the path of peace and dialogue. While the overwhelming majority of Gen Z protesters have demonstrated their commitment to peaceful protest, every movement must continue striving to uphold the highest standards of non-violence.
