A fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district has sentenced Shakir Hussain to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 1.5 lakh after finding him guilty of abducting a woman and her daughter, keeping them in illegal confinement, raping the woman, and forcing her to convert her religion.
According to media reports, the verdict was delivered on Monday by Special Judge Neha Garg of the Fast Track Court for Crimes Against Women, who convicted Hussain on six charges, including kidnapping, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, rape, and forced religious conversion.
Officials said the conviction is the first in Budaun district under provisions dealing with forced religious conversion.
The case was registered on May 27, 2025, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman’s husband.
According to the prosecution, Hussain, a resident of Risoli village in Bilsi area of Budaun, started visiting the family’s house in March 2025, claiming he could treat their sick son through occult practices.
During the trial, the woman stated that Hussain allegedly lured her and her daughter to a room in Sidhpura area of neighbouring Kasganj district, where they were kept in illegal confinement for nearly three months.
She alleged that Hussain compelled her to offer namaz and convert her religion, while her daughter was threatened with death for refusing to comply. The woman also accused Hussain of repeatedly raping her during the period of confinement, media reports said.
After examining documentary evidence and recording witness testimonies, the court found Hussain guilty and awarded the sentence along with the monetary penalty.
