Senior Hamas Commander Killed in Israeli Strike as Gaza Ceasefire Wavers

Jerusalem/Beirut: Israel’s security cabinet is set to convene to discuss the next phase of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, even as far-right ministers push for renewed military operations in Gaza. Meanwhile, tensions continue to escalate across the region, with Israeli military actions reported in Lebanon and the occupied West Bank.

In Lebanon, Israeli tanks advanced through the southern town of Kfar Choubah near the border, raising concerns over a potential prolonged presence. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed fears that Israel may not withdraw its forces despite the ceasefire deadline.

Additionally, the Israeli military has reportedly stationed armed forces across five strategic points inside Lebanese territory. The situation remains volatile following the killing of a senior Hamas official in Sidon, Lebanon.
The Israeli army claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that the individual was in charge of Hamas operations in Lebanon. The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, confirmed the official’s death, attributing it to an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle.

Meanwhile, Israel has advanced plans to construct 974 new housing units in the Efrat settlement, a move that further complicates peace efforts. The settlement, located south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, is considered illegal under international law.

Hostilities have also intensified in the West Bank, with Israeli forces conducting operations in several areas, including the besieged city of Jenin. Reports indicate ongoing Israeli airstrikes and raids as tensions rise.
Amid these developments, the United States has deployed strategic bombers and refueling aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea, a move seen as a show of force amid escalating rhetoric between regional and international players.

On the diplomatic front, Iran’s foreign ministry reiterated its commitment to its nuclear program, stating that the country would not yield to threats from former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As discussions over a ceasefire continue, the region remains on edge, with the potential for further escalation in multiple conflict zones.
